Columbus is the third largest city in Georgia (U.S. state) United States. It is the primary city of the Columbus, Georgia Columbus, Georgia metropolitan area Statistical Area, an MSA which encompasses all of Columbus and Muscogee County, Georgia Harris County, Georgia Chattahoochee County, Georgia Marion County, Georgia and Russell County, Alabama, and which, along with the Auburn Metropolitan Area Alabama MSA and the Tuskegee, Alabama Micropolitan Statistical Area, comprise the greater Columbus-Auburn-Opelika, Georgia-Alabama Columbus, Georgia metropolitan area#Combined Statistical Area Statistical Area. As of the 2000 census, the entire city-county population was 186,291 and 276,000 in the Georgia-Alabama metro area. The city is the county seat of Muscogee County, Georgia County, with which it is a consolidated city-county.In latest estimates, 11% of people in Columbus, Georgia have visited a tax attorney for tax planning.

*Located in downtown, the National Civil War Naval Museum at Port Columbus is a 40,000-square-foot (3,700 m2) facility that opened in 1962 and features two original American Civil War military vessels, uniforms, equipment and weapons used by the United States Navy and Confederate States navies.
